Understand which energy assets SmartgridX follows and how monitoring moves from portfolio level to individual signals and components.
SmartgridX Monitoring connects the commercial overview of an energy portfolio with the technical detail inside each installation. The platform can compare complete sites, follow individual energy assets, and—when the integration provides the data—continue down to components such as MPPT trackers, PV strings, battery racks, cells, phases, or charging connectors.
SmartgridX keeps every measurement in its operational context. Start broad, find the site that deviates, and drill down until the responsible device, component, or signal becomes visible.
Compare sites, rank exceptions, and see where attention is needed.
Understand the complete energy balance at one physical site.
Investigate the individual device responsible for the site behaviour.
Drill into the internal structure when the connected system exposes it.
Follow the measurement, state, or alarm that explains what changed.
The hierarchy prevents a measurement from becoming an isolated number. A drop in portfolio yield can be traced to one site, one inverter, one MPPT, one string, and finally the DC current or alarm that explains the deviation.
From total PV production down to the available DC-side detail.
Follow conversion, stored energy, limits, health, and availability.
Explain where energy enters, leaves, and is consumed within a site.
Supervise controllable loads and distributed energy equipment.
Combine diverse generation technologies in the same portfolio view.
Add the context required to interpret asset performance correctly.
The exact signal set differs by manufacturer and integration, but SmartgridX commonly works with five signal families:
| Signal family | Typical examples | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Energy flow | Active and reactive power, import, export, production, consumption, charge, and discharge. | Explains the current energy balance and whether assets follow their intended operating mode. |
| Energy counters | Imported, exported, generated, consumed, charged, and discharged energy. | Supports reporting, comparison, savings calculations, and long-term performance analysis. |
| Electrical detail | Voltage, current, frequency, power factor, insulation resistance, and phase values. | Helps distinguish an energy-performance issue from an electrical or connection issue. |
| State and health | State of charge, temperature, availability, operating state, communication quality, and device status. | Shows whether equipment is available, constrained, overheated, offline, or operating normally. |
| Events and context | Manufacturer alarms, SmartgridX alarms, irradiance, weather, energy prices, setpoints, and grid limits. | Provides the context needed to explain why behaviour changed and whether intervention is required. |
Monitoring depth is determined by the complete data route:
String-level monitoring is not automatic
Some inverters expose only total AC power. Others also expose each MPPT or PV string. Battery systems can similarly range from one combined SoC value to rack-, module-, or cell-level telemetry. SmartgridX displays the detail supplied by the supported integration; it does not derive component measurements that the source does not provide.
Use the descendant hierarchy to move from the installation overview to the device or component that explains the observed behaviour.
Imagine that a solar portfolio produces less than expected:
This same method applies to a battery that does not reach its target SoC, an EV charger that is unavailable, a meter with implausible values, or a controllable load that does not follow its setpoint.
