Most home and small business networks allow all outbound connections by default. You do not have to do anything in this case.
The following ports are used for outbound connections from the SmartgridOne Controller. Which ports are required depends on the features in use; the remote service connection is optional for normal operation.
The SmartgridOne Controller does not require opening any network ports for inbound connections.
It is strongly discouraged and NOT necessary to configure your firewall to port forward or allow incoming TCP and UDP connections on the listed ports above! This is a serious security risk.
To avoid connectivity issues after future updates, it is recommended to whitelist all the eniris.be, eniris.io and eniris.com domains with a wildcard:
The following SmartgridOne domains are used by the SmartgridOne Controller, depending on the enabled features:
Legacy Mender service
mender.eniris.be and public-mender.eniris.be refer to the outdated Mender update service and are not required for current customer installations. Mender is shielded from the public Internet, so it is expected that it cannot be reached from an external network. This alone does not indicate a fault in the customer's firewall or controller. Existing outbound allowlist entries for these legacy endpoints do not need to be removed solely because the service is unreachable; do not add firewall openings to make it reachable.
A TCP port scan cannot determine whether UDP port 1193 is reachable. A closed TCP port 1193 is therefore not evidence that the VPN is blocked. Check the protocol and port actually used by the VPN connection, test that connection and inspect the firewall logs. A UDP probe without a reply is inconclusive on its own.
The optional VPN connection enables remote service. Its absence does not by itself prevent normal customer operation; the other network requirements for the features in use still apply. No inbound port forwarding is needed.
The SmartgridOne Controller is by default configured to use DHCP. You can change this to a fixed IP address in the 'Settings' tab of the commissioning interface.
Only configure a fixed IP address in the SmartgridOne Controller if you have no other choice. It is recommended to always use DHCP, and configure your router to always assign the same IP address to the SmartgridOne Controller instead!
Write down the IP address you configure. You will need this if the SmartgridOne Controller would become inaccessible after changing the IP address!
Lost access to the commissioning interface If you lose access to the commissioning interface after setting a fixed IP address, then check out the troubleshooting section.
As an optional security measure, the SmartgridOne Controller can be placed within a dedicated VLAN. When implementing this configuration, ensure that all devices requiring communication with the controller are assigned to the same VLAN.
